The true cost of “free”

I’ve been thinking lately about free stuff that is given to us on a daily basis: e-mail accounts, credit card bonuses, etc. I wonder if it’s worth it to give up your address, name, whatever they are asking you for a relatively small favor in the shape of new iPod or lower introductory interest rate. Would it be better just pay your fee and be free? After all paid online content is not dead.

No mo’ clickin’

Dontclick.it – Interesting eye candy project from Germany. I can’t quite understand the purpose – what is wrong with clicks as interactions? IMHO, clicks allow a user to create a self defined pace and make a nice finishing touch for some interations. User habits aside, by loosing clicks we’d loose a multitude of interactions: mouseUp, mouseDown, and the ever great drag-and-drop trick. Thumbs down guys, I don’t like it.

“Green” font disaster

Dutch company SPRANQ designed new font that will save you inks and supposedly make us all happier. Dumbest idea ever… Any modern laser printer has “Economy” mode that will save you inks without making you feel righteous about your “green” sensibilities.

It’s bad for your eyes too. Download it and see for yourself.
